Karin Vlieger

Karin Vlieger was born in Poland and educated in England where she acquired British nationality. She studied at Birmingham College of Art, specialising in Woven Textiles for Industry, and continued her further education in Sweden. She worked as a freelancer and lecturer in the U.K., where she is registered at the Council of Industrial Design and the Colour & Design Style Center. In 1963 she went to Brazil for complementary studies and fell in love with the country. She taught Art at the British School in Rio de Janeiro and in 1994 moved to the Algarve, Portugal. Her paintings and weavings have been exhibited in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Brasília, as well as South Africa, U.S.A., Britain and Portugal. Her great inspiration comes from nature. Her exuberant work reflects her love of leaves and vivid use of colour and form.

“My aim is to make people more aware of the beauty of the vivid vegetation and to try and bring nature into their homes, where it can become part of their life and through this bring about awareness for the preservation of nature and tropical forests in particular.”

Karin Vlieger nasceu na Polônia e estudou na Inglaterra, onde adquiriu a nacionalidade britânica. Estudou no Birmingham College of Art, especializando-se em Tecidos para a Indústria, e continuou seus estudos na Suécia. Trabalhou como freelancer e professora no Reino Unido, onde é registrada no Council of Industrial Design e no Colour & Design Style Center. Em 1963, foi para o Brasil para estudos complementares e se apaixonou pelo país. Lecionou Arte na British School no Rio de Janeiro e, em 1994, mudou-se para o Algarve, em Portugal. Suas pinturas e tapeçarias foram exibidas no Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo e Brasília, bem como na África do Sul, EUA, Grã-Bretanha e Portugal. Sua grande inspiração vem da natureza. Seu trabalho exuberante reflete seu amor pelas folhas e o uso vívido de cores e formas.

“Meu objetivo é conscientizar as pessoas sobre a beleza da vegetação exuberante e tentar trazer a natureza para dentro de suas casas, onde ela possa se tornar parte de suas vidas e, por meio disso, gerar conscientização sobre a preservação da natureza e das florestas tropicais em particular.”
